Regarding the situation at Twitter

On October 27th Elon Musk completed his purchase and assumed control of Twitter. Since then, there has seemingly been daily reports of destabilizing decisions. The reporting about his leadership of Twitter have now resulted in people questioning whether Twitter has a long-term future.

While you contemplate this you should download your Twitter archive. Here is a tutorial (and part 2) from Joel.

And if Twitter doesn’t have a future what does that mean for #NephJC and #MedTwitter?

If you have not been worrying about that, know that we have. The NephJC board and work groups are exploring options and contingencies a world without Twitter.

We conducted a Twitter Spaces on Tuesday to talk about this and listen to peoples thoughts. It was pretty cool. Take a listen.

As we do this you can help out.

  1. Sign up for our Newsletter. If Twitter winks out of existence one day we will want a way to talk to you. Our newsletter is the most reliable way.

  2. Go sign up for Mastodon. This is an open source alternative to Twitter. It is like twitter but it isn’t quite Twitter. Somethings are better. Lots of things are worse. But, again if Twitter sinks it is a sea worthy life raft.

  3. Once you are on Mastodon, register with MedTwitter white pages.

We are also exploring Reddit. So take a look at r/NephJC.
