MERCURI-2 reports that dapagliflozin cuts postoperative AKI after cardiac surgery, but the headline result is mostly a urine-output story, not a creatinine one. That matters: urine output after surgery is easily swayed by anesthesia, fluid shifts, vasopressors, and a diuretic drug in the mix. Until dapagliflozin shows it protects kidney function, not just urine output.

FIND-CKD extends finerenone beyond diabetic kidney disease, showing slower eGFR decline and sustained albuminuria reduction in non-diabetic CKD. While the benefits are modest and cardiovascular effects remain uncertain, the trial opens the door to broader use of nsMRAs and raises important questions about combination therapy with SGLT2 inhibitors.

NephJC is now more than twelve years old- and it’s amazing to see how far a simple idea has grown. We started with a handful of nephrologists on Twitter (yeah, we still call it that) choosing a paper and discussing it in cyberspace on social media, with access for all. Those conversations were lively, joyful, and full of curiosity.

Over time, that spark became a community: nephrologists, trainees, students, researchers, and patients learning together through article summaries, visual abstracts, podcasts, book clubs, and even an internship- to give back to our community and support the next generation of educators.

Unfortunately, but inevitably, social media has changed. The platforms that once felt like bustling town squares now feel scattered, quieter, and harder to gather interest from a worldwide audience. Our community is more spread out than ever- and we’re trying to meet nephrologists wherever they are today, hoping to catch a small glimpse of the energy we once shared.

So, we’re happy to announce that NephJC now has a LinkedIn page.
