MERCURI-2 reports that dapagliflozin cuts postoperative AKI after cardiac surgery, but the headline result is mostly a urine-output story, not a creatinine one. That matters: urine output after surgery is easily swayed by anesthesia, fluid shifts, vasopressors, and a diuretic drug in the mix. Until dapagliflozin shows it protects kidney function, not just urine output.

NephJC will be out in force at Kidney Week in Philadelphia this year. And the thing we are most excited about is the Friday night party (November 3rd) at Philadelphia City Winery. This year it is a two parter…

  1. From 7 to 9 we will be doing a live recording of a special podcast with The Curbsiders! We will have some special guests in addition to Matt Watto and Paul Williams. It is going to be awesome. Seating is limited so you will need a ticket. To get a ticket you need to donate $100 to NephJC. The donation is tax-deductible in the US. The podcast recording includes an open bar and will likely have light appetizers (let’s see how the fund raising goes).

  2. After the podcast we will have our traditional bar night “Blogger Night” at the same location from 9 until they toss us out. This will be a cash bar.
